Why is Jerusalem important in the Bible?

In the Old Testament Jerusalem is Israel's capital and the city of the temple; in the New Testament it is where Jesus' final week unfolds and where the early church is born. It is therefore both the historical and spiritual center of the narrative.

What happened to Jesus in Jerusalem?

According to the Gospels, Jesus entered Jerusalem in a triumphal procession, taught in the temple, was crucified and rose on the third day. Acts then describes the church beginning here, on the day of Pentecost.
