Description

A Greek Orthodox church in Caferağa, Kadıköy, completed in 1902.

History

The Kadıköy Aya Triada (Holy Trinity) Greek Orthodox Church stands in the Caferağa neighbourhood of Kadıköy, on a block between Bahariye Avenue and Hacı Şükrü and Nisbiye streets. According to sources, the church was built in 1902 under the guidance of Patriarch Joachim III and Germanos, Metropolitan of Kadıköy; Metropolitan Germanos is also buried in the church garden. The building's architects are recorded as G. Zahariadis and Belissarios Makropoulos. The church is notable for an architecture that combines neo-Byzantine and neo-Renaissance styles, and is regarded as one of the symbols of Kadıköy's multicultural fabric reaching from the 19th century to the present day.
