The story of Apollos in the Bible

Apollos arrives in Ephesus as a Jew from Alexandria: eloquent, fervent in spirit, and thoroughly at home in the Scriptures. He taught the facts about Jesus accurately, yet he knew only the baptism of John. Hearing him speak boldly in the synagogue, Priscilla and Aquila took him aside and explained the way of God to him more fully. When he wished to cross to Achaia, the believers in Ephesus encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. In Corinth he greatly helped the believers through God's grace, publicly refuting opponents by showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Messiah. In time, however, factions arose in Corinth, some claiming Paul and others Apollos. Paul answered the division with a striking picture: he had planted, Apollos had watered, but it was God who made things grow. Between the two servants stood partnership, not rivalry; even in his letter to Titus, Paul asks that Apollos be helped on his way and left lacking nothing.
