The story of Timothy in the Bible

We meet Timothy in the town of Lystra. His mother Eunice was a Jewish believer and his father a Greek; the faith was first alive, as Paul later fondly recalled, in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Passing through Lystra on his second journey, Paul found that the believers there spoke well of this young disciple and decided to take him along, having him circumcised to ease his ministry among Jews. From then on Timothy became one of Paul's closest co-workers: the apostle sent him as a trusted representative to churches such as Thessalonica and Corinth, and his name stands beside Paul's in the greetings of several letters. Two New Testament letters are addressed directly to him. In them Paul calls him his true child in the faith and urges him to let no one look down on his youth but to set an example in word and conduct. With his sincere faith and proven character, Timothy embodies faith handed down from one generation to the next.
