Troas is the port city of Alexandria Troas on the Aegean coast, south of the Dardanelles. On his second journey, after being kept from speaking the word in Asia, Paul passed by Mysia and came down to Troas; there, in a vision at night, a man of Macedonia begged him for help (Acts 16:9). From Troas, then, the gospel crossed into Europe. On his third journey Paul stayed in the city for seven days; while he talked until midnight with believers gathered on the first day of the week to break bread, the young man Eutychus fell from a window and was brought back alive (Acts 20:7-12).

Where is Troas today?

Troas is in Türkiye today: the archaeological site of Alexandria Troas near the village of Dalyan in the Ezine district of Çanakkale. This is the port where Paul saw the Macedonian vision and set sail to take the gospel to Europe (Acts 16:8-11). The site spreads over a wide area; visitors can see the arches of a large bath-gymnasium complex, sections of the city walls and traces of the ancient harbour.

Is Troas the same as Troy?

No. The Troas of the Bible is the port city of Alexandria Troas near the village of Dalyan in the Ezine district of Çanakkale. Troy, famous from the epics, lies about 25 km to the north on the mound of Hisarlık. The two are often confused because they are in the same area, and Troas was also the ancient name of the whole region.

Who was Eutychus?

Eutychus was a young man in Troas who fell asleep during Paul's long talk, which went on until midnight, and fell from a third-storey window. He was picked up dead, but Paul went down, embraced him and said he was still alive. In the end they brought the young man back alive and were greatly comforted (Acts 20:9-12).
