Pisidian Antioch is the city Paul and Barnabas reached after Perga on their first missionary journey (Acts 13:14). On the Sabbath Paul spoke in the synagogue, retelling Israel's history and proclaiming that God had raised Jesus from the dead; the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of God (Acts 13:16–44). When opposition arose, the apostles announced that they were turning to the Gentiles, and they were eventually driven out of the city (Acts 13:46–50). Later verses call it simply 'Antioch' (Acts 14:21). Today the site lies at Yalvaç in Isparta Province.

Where is Pisidian Antioch today?

Pisidian Antioch is today in Türkiye, an archaeological site just north of the town of Yalvaç in Isparta Province. Paul and Barnabas spoke in its synagogue on their first journey (Acts 13:14–16). Visitors can see the remains of the Temple of Augustus, sections of the aqueduct and the foundations of a large basilica known as the Church of St. Paul; some finds from the city are displayed in the Yalvaç Museum.

What did Paul preach in Pisidian Antioch?

In the synagogue Paul summarised Israel's history up to David, then proclaimed that, as God had promised, he had brought Jesus from David's line as Saviour and raised him from the dead (Acts 13:16–41). It is the first long sermon of Paul recorded in Acts.
