Iconium (spelled İkonyum in the KK translation) is today's Konya. After being driven out of Pisidian Antioch, Paul and Barnabas came here and spoke in the synagogue so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed (Acts 13:51–14:1). They stayed a long time and spoke boldly, but the city was divided, and when a plot to stone them emerged they fled to Lystra and Derbe in Lycaonia (Acts 14:3–6). The apostles passed through again on their way back (Acts 14:21), and Timothy was well spoken of by the believers in Iconium (Acts 16:2).
