Who is Titus in the Bible?
Titus is Paul's trusted Greek coworker, and he plays a mediating and supportive role in a difficult situation involving Corinth. The letter addressed to him also provides important witness about church order and leadership in Crete.
The story of Titus in the Bible
Although Titus is never mentioned in the book of Acts, Paul's letters let us know him well. According to Galatians, Paul took him along on a journey to Jerusalem; though Titus was a Greek, he was not compelled to be circumcised, an important testimony to the freedom of the gospel. During Paul's tense dealings with the church in Corinth, Titus stepped forward as a mediator: he carried Paul's letter, witnessed the congregation's repentance, and brought back news that deeply comforted the apostle. The completion in Corinth of the collection for the poor believers in Judea was likewise entrusted to him; Paul calls him his partner and fellow worker. In the letter addressed to him, Paul greets him as a true son in the common faith and explains why he left him in Crete: to set in order what remained unfinished and to appoint elders in the towns. Titus is thus remembered as the reliable man for hard assignments, a servant who left his mark on the ordering of the first-generation churches.
Is Titus mentioned in the Quran?
The name Titus does not appear in the Quran; he is known from the New Testament as Paul's trusted co-worker, the recipient of a letter bearing his name and the man who organized the churches in Crete.
