Meaning of the Name Nathan
Nathan is linked to the Hebrew root ntn and most basically carries the idea of "he gave" or "has given." In some contexts it may function as a shortened form implying that God has given a gift. That second point is plausible, but it cannot be shown with certainty for every occurrence.

Who is Nathan in the Bible?
The best-known biblical bearer of this name is Nathan the prophet, who served during David's reign. Nathan delivers God's promises to David, confronts him after the Bathsheba episode, and plays a role in Solomon's accession. Other figures also bear the name, including one of David's sons.
The story of Nathan in the Bible
Nathan was a prophet who served in the days of King David. David first confided to him his desire to build a temple for the LORD; Nathan initially encouraged the idea, but that same night he received a word to deliver to the king: not David but his offspring would build the house, and the LORD promised David's line an enduring kingdom. Nathan's most famous moment came after the affair with Bathsheba. With a parable about a rich man who seized his poor neighbor's only lamb, he awakened David's conscience and told the king to his face that he himself was that man; David then confessed his sin. Years later, when David had grown old and Adonijah tried to claim the throne, Nathan acted again, informing the king together with Bathsheba and helping secure Solomon's accession. Others in Scripture bear the same name, including one of David's own sons, yet the prophet who dared to speak truth to the king remains the best-known Nathan.
Is Nathan mentioned in the Quran?
The name Nathan does not appear in the Quran; this prophet is known from 2 Samuel and 1 Kings in the Old Testament as the one who brought God's word to David.
