Who is Hosea in the Bible?

The story of Hosea in the Bible
Hosea, son of Beeri, was a prophet who spoke above all to the northern kingdom of Israel. The opening of his book places his ministry in the days of the Judean kings from Uzziah to Hezekiah and of Jeroboam king of Israel. The LORD asked something extraordinary of him: he was commanded to marry Gomer, an unfaithful woman, so that the marriage would become a living picture of the people's unfaithfulness to the LORD. The names given to their children carried messages of their own. Later the LORD told him to love again the wife who seemed to deserve no love, and Hosea paid a price to bring her back. That lived experience carries the book's central theme: though Israel has run after other gods, the LORD's love does not run out; he calls his people to return and promises to heal them. The same name belongs to Hoshea, the last king of Israel, with context deciding which man is meant, yet the prophet remains the best-known bearer.
