Who is Amaziah in the Bible?

The story of Amaziah in the Bible
Amaziah became king of Judah after his father Joash was assassinated. Scripture notes that he did what was right in the LORD's sight, yet not with a whole heart. Once his rule was secure he executed the officials who had killed his father, but in obedience to the Law of Moses he spared their children. He won a decisive victory over Edom in the Valley of Salt, only to bring back the gods of the very people he had defeated and bow down before them, ignoring the prophet sent to warn him. Growing overconfident, he challenged Jehoash king of Israel; despite a cautionary reply in the form of a parable he pressed on, was defeated at Beth-shemesh, and saw part of Jerusalem's wall torn down. Years later a conspiracy formed against him; he fled to Lachish, where he was killed. His story, told in 2 Kings 14 and 2 Chronicles 25, stands as a striking example of a reign that began well but ran on a divided heart.
