Romans 10:9

9 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

On Romans 10:9: the context of this verse that joins belief with open confession, its place in a chapter on salvation and why it is often cited.

Romans 10:9 sits within a chapter where Paul explains that salvation is open to everyone. The verse sets two things side by side: believing in the heart and saying so openly.

This pairing lifts faith out of being a purely inward feeling and ties it to speech and witness. Paul then stresses, with the word "everyone," that this door is closed to no one.
