The Lord's Prayer
9 Pray like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
10 Let your Kingdom come. Let your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
13 Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. ’

On the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13): the place of the prayer Jesus taught within the chapter, its petition-by-petition structure and why it is the best-known prayer.
The Lord's Prayer is the example Jesus gives in the Sermon on the Mount, saying to his disciples, "pray like this." It is a short, plain pattern set against showy, wordy prayers; that plainness is why it has been the most-read prayer for centuries.
The prayer is made of a few petitions: that the name be hallowed, the kingdom come, daily bread, forgiveness and protection from evil. This order turns attention first to what is great, then to the concrete needs of the day.
You can move to the chapter below to read the whole prayer with the counsel on "how to pray" that precedes it. The related collection on prayer bridges to other verses on the same theme.
