Philippians 4:13

13 I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

World English Bible (WEB)

What does Philippians 4:13 really mean? The often-missed context of the "I can do all things" verse: learning contentment in need and in plenty. Read it directly.

Philippians 4:13 is often quoted like a success slogan; yet its actual context is almost the opposite. Paul writes this line while in prison and in material hardship.

In the verses just before it he speaks of having known both fullness and hunger, both plenty and want, and says he has "learned" to be content in every situation. So 4:13 is not a power that overrides circumstances but a support that keeps one standing within them.
