Love Before Deserving

God's love does not arrive as a reward for getting ourselves together; it moves toward people in the middle of failure and need. Hope rests there, in who God is, not in how well we perform.
That can become very concrete at the end of a bad day. When you feel embarrassed by your own choices, the first impulse is usually to withdraw. Remembering that love moved first can create enough room to be honest instead of hiding. Sometimes change begins exactly there.
